Art Camp 2015!

We had a fantastic time at camp this year!  Pfeiffer University hosted us and I even had the privilege of using their art room, which was super nice!  Over the course of four days, we created beachy scenes on 16x20 canvases in each group.  Campers learned artsy smartsy words and about topics like seascapes, horizon lines, and the proper use of brushes and creating brushstrokes that make a realistic seascape. I did a guided drawing on the first day and we painted our skies, blending blues with white to give our paintings dimension. Day 2 and 3 we painted water and went crazy with color on our sailboats and surfboards.  On the last day we enhanced our drawings using permanent markers to make the original outlines stand out.  I enjoyed this group of artists this year and think they did a fabulous job on their paintings!

4th grade Peacocks

I missed posting a few things back in March, one of which were these beautiful peacocks that fourth grade drew!  We used my all time favorite medium, (other than paint of course) Crayola Color Sticks. :)

Sweet kinder tulips!

Oh how much I love these beautiful tulips my kinders are working on this week!!  (I saw these on another art blog, I need to find the link to post here.)  They did such a great job with the drawings!  I was a little hesitant to do this one with kindergarten but decided they could do it, and they really impressed me!  We used a petal shaped template to help with some of the lines but other than that, they free handed  them step by step along with me.

Remember all that paper we've been painting? We are putting it to good use this week in second grade!! I love these beautiful bold flowers!!

Painted paper trees

I used some of my 1st graders' artwork for our volunteer gifts in my previous post.  The remaining classes also completed a similar version but instead of using green construction paper for the leaves, we used our painted paper that we created earlier in the year.  I also had a substitute for one group and she is a fantastic one!  I left lesson plans for them to create just the background with paint, and I failed to specify which direction I had originally intended for the paper to be oriented.  So, she did that very first step portrait instead of landscape, and I am so glad she did, because I think I love them even more this way!!

Here are the landscape versions, I was thinking it would be better to have more room for the flowers, but now I love both versions.

We ❤️ our volunteers!

Each year our school hosts a volunteer appreciation tea for the wonderful volunteers that help us throughout the year. This year I was asked to have students create something special for them in art to show them how thankful we are for their time.  The tree and branches are their handprints and we used our painted papers that we made earlier in the year for the flowers. :)

Happy First Day of Spring!!

Ironically, today is a dreary, cold, and rainy day... The temperature is a balmy 45 degrees on the first day of spring. :( So... I'm happy to be creating such beautiful bright and colorful flowers in a few of my classes this week.  It definitely has brightened up my morning!  We added polka dots to the background of these and I love the striking effect of them!

This student asked if he could do his in shades of black, white, and gray.  It turned out awesome!
